JOE & THE JUICE

At Joe & The Juice, the UK Barista Trainer plays a crucial role in elevating the quality of coffee service across our stores. This position focuses on skill development and operational excellence, working closely with Juicers and Lead Baristas to drive performance in designated locations.

As a key leader in our Barista Training & Validation Program, the Barista Trainer is responsible for overseeing the progression from Juicer to Lead Barista, ensuring that staff receive comprehensive training, successfully complete validations, and excel in their roles.

A critical part of this role includes equipment troubleshooting and maintenance, ensuring coffee machinery operates efficiently and training staff on proper usage and upkeep to maintain quality standards.

This position requires a hands-on approach across multiple store locations in the UK, proactively identifying and addressing coffee-related challenges through practical training sessions and on-site support.

Reports to: UK Coffee Specialist

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Barista Training & Progression: Oversee the Lead Barista training and validation program, including identifying suitable staff for training, ensuring they successfully complete validations, and facilitating their promotion. Manage succession planning by replacing departing Lead Baristas and assisting with staff retention.

• Staff Development: Provide continuous behind-the-counter training to enhance staff expertise in all aspects of coffee preparation and service.

• Lead Barista Team Management: Ensure adequate Lead Barista coverage across store operations throughout the week, collaborating with managers to optimize shift allocation.

• Operational Efficiency: Identify and implement improvements behind the bar to enhance workflow, service quality, and overall efficiency.

• Performance Optimization: Drive improvements in store performance by monitoring and acting on key performance indicators (KPIs), including Flow data. Create weekly Flow KPI reports.

• Product Launch Integration: Support the seamless introduction of new coffee products into store operations, ensuring staff readiness and execution.

• Equipment Maintenance Training: Educate staff on proper coffee equipment cleaning and maintenance to uphold product quality and operational reliability.

Qualifications and Skills:

• 3+ years working within the specialty coffee industry.

• Proven experience working with and troubleshooting coffee equipment.

• SCA qualifications in relevant areas is preferrable but not required.

• Experience working in a multi-site hospitality organisation at an operational level.

• Proven ability to train and mentor staff, with excellent communication and leadership skills.

• Analytical mindset with the ability to identify inefficiencies and implement solutions.

• Willingness to travel to various store locations across the UK for training assignments.

• Passion for coffee and delivering an exceptional customer experience.
